Virajpet: 19 students and two teachers at a government school, were injured due to bee attack in Bairambada, Ammatti Ontiyangadi, on Thursday afternoon. A gram panchayat member who rushed the children to the hospital, too, was attacked by bees on the occasion.

The incident occurred at the government lower primary school, Bairambada around noon when a swarm of bees from a nearby forest stung the students and teachers who were in the school premises and classrooms.

The students tried to take shelter inside the classrooms to escape from the bees, but in vain.

Upon learning about the incident, Gram Panchayat member M S Poovaiah immediately took the young children in his jeep and rushed to the nearby Primary Health Center in Ontiyangadi for timely treatment. During this process, Poovaiah was also stung by the bees.

In total, 19 students, Headteacher Padma and another teacher were stung by the bees. The presence of mind and swift action by M S Poovayya in ensuring prompt medical treatment saved the children from further harm, has been appreciated.

Gram Panchayat President Dinesh and Forest department officials visited the location.
