Belagavi man in sunken ship

One of the sailors went missing in the Torpedo Recovery Vessel of Indian Army that sunk off the Vishakapatnam coast during a naval exercise is from Belagavi. The family members of Lt Commander Shishir Kumar Yadavannavar, 32, are now worried over his fate.

Shishir was serving as weapon’s officer of the National Armament Inspection Office of Eastern Naval Command (ENC) attached to Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL). He was deployed by ENC to inspect the testing of torpedoes developed by NSTL. Shishir is missing since then.

A  native of Rani Channamma nagar in Belagavi, Shishir studied in Kendriya Vidyalaya No 2 at Camp and did his engineering in Gogte Institute of Technology.  His mother Ningakka, 65, and elder brother Sharad have rushed to Vishakapatnam to be with Shishir’s wife Rohini and two-year-old son Pratyush. Shishir’s father Shivarudrappa Yadavappa Yadannavar, retired Havaldar from the Army Medical Corps, could not go to Vishakapatnam due to ill health .

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Shivarudrappa said it is already four days since the vessel has sunk. “We are only praying God and hoping that search operation would succeed.”
