Patil told mediapersons here on Sunday that 12 teams from all over the country and five from abroad had confirmed their participation. Another 15 teams are expected to take part in the event.

“Large numbers of people from several places in Karnataka and Maharashtra are expected to attend the fest,” Patil said, adding that efforts would be made to attract tourists to Goa.

For the first time in the country, the event is being organised at night - from 7 pm to 9 pm.

Kites lit with lamps are going to be the star attraction of the festival, the MLA said.

Kites of various sizes ranging from two inches to 30 feet height will be hoisted. On January 17, a training programme on kite-making will be organised for 1,000 children, said Kite Clinic Club President A Krishnaji Rao.
