Davangere: Congress MLA from Gujrat Jignesh Mewani on Saturday asked people not to believe politicians.
"Being a politician, I am saying that don't believe parties. But I have immense faith in those who fight on the streets for their rights. I will join your agitation no matter whether it is in Karnataka or Gujrat," said Mevani.
Speaking at Samvidhana Rakshana Samavesha, here, he charged that the RSS and BJP have decided to change the constitution. The Congress MLA said that the Sangh parivar was trying to create tensions between Hindus and Muslims, and wondered what came next.
"This is the land of Basavanna, Mahaveer, Kabir Das, Rajguru, Ashfaqulla Khan (freedom fighter) and not just the land of Modi and Shah. So, we need to safeguard our land. Youths have the onus of safeguarding the country. I salute people who are determined to eradicate BJP, RSS from the land of Basavanna," said Mevani.
He said "I have come from Gujrat and communal riots took place in 2002. It had affected the image of then chief minister Narendra Modi. In order to rebuild it, they organised global investors meet in Gujrat. So, capitalists are in favour of Modi and Shah and not common people. We need to promote the values of the constitution in our district, town, area and set up constitution branches. There is a need to defeat BJP in all states including Karnataka."
