The Kedarnath temple is one of the more important ones. This place is also called Dakshina Kedarnath (Kedar of the South).

The region was ruled by Kalachuryas, Chalukyas and Hoysala kings and has a history dating back to 685 AD. It is said that Belligavi was an important centre for education at one point in time.

The Kedarnath temple here bears the insignia of the Hoysalas, indicating that the temple might have been built during their time. Though it is not known when the temple was constructed, a mention of the temple in a 1094 AD edict gives a fair indication that the temple might have been built in that time, historians say. There are records that indicate the names of the sculptors Bisadoja, Chavoja and Singoja responsible for this temple.
Next to this temple is another temple, smaller in size, and built along the same lines.

The place also has a museum maintained by the Archaeology Department. The sculpture of Panchamukha Buddha in the museum is a rare one, and is said to be among the most ancient ones in the country. Belligavi is 20 kms from Shikaripur and is situated between Shiralakoppa and Anavatti. It is just two kilometres from Shiralakoppa.
