It is the first time ever the DB5, equipped with an array of gadgets to gladden any Bond fan’s heart, has come on the open market. Which is why it is expected to fetch bids in the region of $7 million when it goes for sale this year, reported Daily Mail online.
The iconic DB5 comes complete with all the original gadgets, including bulletproof screen, oil jets, smoke machines, tyre shredders and was driven by Connery in Gold Finger and Thunderball.
Two cars were made to be used in the 1964 Gold Finger film, and one has since disappeared. The original car is to come out of a private collection for the first time in 40 years and be put up for auction.
Bond evaded a succession of villains in style, thanks to special additions to the DB5 added by Q Branch, all that are legal to have aboard are still part of the car. But while the moving parts exist, as do the buttons next to the driver’s seat, the guns are not real and the shield may not hold up to genuine ammunition. The ejector seat, activated on screen by a gearstick button, was never operational.
The car was brought in 1969 by American radio DJ Jerry Lee for $12,000. The vehicle, which has the number plate FMP 7B, is in perfect working condition and has about 30,000 miles on the clock.
The auction takes place on October 27 and the auctioneers are expecting huge interest from around the world.
