The fire control room received a call at 8:25 am. Two fire tenders were dispatched at 8:26 am. At least seven houses located in Chinnayanpalya near Wilson Garden were severely damaged, fire department sources said.

"A family of three lived in the house where the suspected explosion occurred. The man who worked as a labourer left early in the day. The woman and child sustained injuries, while the child in the neighbouring house died," a senior officer said.

Senior police officers, including commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, have reached the spot to carry out an assessment.

Scene of crime (SOCO) officers, bomb squad and members of the anti-terrorist cell of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) were also roped in. Rescuers are currently clearing the debris.
