More than 100 people have suffered eye injuries during the Deepavali festivities this year. A few were hurt while bursting crackers, while a few others were just passers by.

Most of them were treated as out-patients since they had suffered minor injuries. A total of 35 cases were treated at Minto Hospital since October 21. As many as 39 patients were treated at Narayana Nethralaya since the festive season began.

Four cases of minor injuries were reported at Rangalakshmi Netralaya and three at Samprathi Eye Hospital. Shekhar Nethralaya received 21 cases, Vasan, 18, Shankara Eye Hospital, 12, Nethradhama, eight, and Modi Eye hospital saw six cases. 

The number of cases reported are considerably low when compared to the previous years. As many as 116 cases were reported in 2013 while it was nearly 150 in 2012.
