At least 1.19 lakh Ganesha idols were immersed across Bengaluru on Saturday, the third day of Ganesha Chaturthi.

But despite the BBMP’s precautionary measures, dry and wet festival waste piled up at immersion centres. Mahendra Kumar, of Malleswaram, said though many people preferred clay idols this year, they recklessly threw flower and puja waste in plastic bags near immersion centres.

According to him, flowers should be buried or used in composting. An official said the BBMP deployed 25 extra trucks across the city to dispose of the additional waste that accumulated after the festival.
