Bengaluru: A surprise inspection carried the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison during the early hours of Wednesday resulted in the seizure of 16 smartphones, along with accessories, besides 11 SIM cards, from the inmates.

In the FIR, Superintendent of Central Prison Paramesh H A has stated that the inspection was carried out in two phases — the first between 1am and 1.30am, and the second from 6am to 7.30am — under the supervision of jailer Sharanayya.

The prison personnel found mobile phones concealed in bedsheets, inside pillows and mattresses. 

The search was carried out in Security Block–03, Back Block–01, Room No 03 and Barrack–5, where phones of various brands were found and confiscated. The jail officials also found earphones, chargers and other accessories during the search.

One smartphone was found under the bed of a convicted inmate named Sagar alias Rakhibul Islam, while another inmate, Muniraju, had concealed a phone inside his pillow. Another device was also found concealed inside the inner wall near the bathroom of Room 5 in the ‘B’ barrack. Following the seizure, a case has been registered.
