Bengaluru: The 218th edition of Lalbagh’s Flower Show, themed on freedom fighters Rani Chennamma and Sangolli Rayanna, recorded its highest footfall of the season on Independence Day.

The show drew 1,79,090 visitors on Friday, comprising 1,45,720 adults, 13,720 children and 19,650 schoolchildren.

The ticket sales brought in Rs 85 lakh. Since August 7, the show has welcomed nearly 4 lakh visitors, with organisers expecting to surpass that figure over the long weekend.

This is the first time in two years that the event has witnessed such numbers, second only to the 2023 Independence Day flower show held in memory of late CM Kengal Hanumanthaiah, which saw four lakh visitors in a single day.

M Jagadeesh, Joint Director of Horticulture at Lalbagh, attributed Friday’s turnout to the Independence Day holiday, noting that numbers could have crossed the 4 lakh mark if not for two rain spells during show hours.

“Despite the heavy crowd, we’ve maintained cleanliness and upheld eco-friendly, plastic-free standards, thanks to our staff and volunteers,” he told DH, crediting the extra workforce deployed for the event.

The flower show will go on until August 18.

Ticket prices are Rs 80 on weekdays and Rs 100 on weekends for adults, Rs 30 for students above 12, and free entry for uniformed school students on working days. The timings are 7 am to 7 pm.
