Two persons suffered major injuries in a collision between a car and a boulder-laden tipper at Shivananda Circle in Seshadripuram on Saturday early morning.

The injured were identified as Nagaraj, 33, a resident of Seshadripuram, and driver Ganesh, 26, a resident of Kuruburahalli. The impact of the accident was such that the victims, who were struck in the mangled remains of the vehicle, were rescued by fire and emergency personnel after a five-hour operation.

The accident occurred around 1 am at Shivananda Circle. The truck driver was speeding while the car driver slowed down at the junction. The truck moved partially after the driver tried to take a left turn. However, it hit the car, dragged it and collided with a pole, said the police.

A team of around 20 staff from fire and emergency services reached the spot. The car’s steering had gone to the left side, while the front portion had got stuck between highlight mast and the tipper, said an officer involved in the operation. Two earthmovers and two cranes were employed, while cutters were used to cut open the car.
