Two software professionals and an elderly woman were mowed down by speeding vehicles in two separate incidents in the City on Wednesday.

Police said, Pradeep Raj (24), an employee of an IT firm, was living in a rented room near the Munekolalu flyover in the City. He went to receive his friend, Vigneshwaran (24), also a techie with an IT company in Chennai, who arrived in the City in the morning.

As soon as Vigneshwaran got down near the flyover, the two were on their way to Pradeep’s room, when a speeding four-wheeler mowed them down, killing them on the spot. The Airport Traffic Police have registered a case and are investigating.

Run over by tanker

In another incident, Sunandamma (74), a resident of Bapuji Nagar, died on the spot after she was run over by a water tanker, while she was on her way to pick her grandson from school. The incident occurred when Sunandamma had hardly walked a few metres from her house.

A family member told Deccan Herald that the driver of the water tanker surrendered to the Byatarayanapura traffic police, who inspected the spot and took the driver into custody. However, the police said the water tanker driver is absconding. The Byatarayanapura Traffic Police have registered a case and are investigating.
