The traffic police conducted surprise checks on important locations in and around the Majestic area on Tuesday and took 30 persons into custody for violating traffic rules.

There were increasing complaints about violation of pedestrians norms, in turn leading to accidents. Skywalks and pedestrian crossing facilities such as sub-ways and underpasses are not being used by the pedestrians.

A Mount Carmel college student was recently mowed down while crossing the road after jumping a median. The police took the violators into custody when they were jumping the median and trying to cross the roads.

They were produced before court, slapped a penalty of Rs 100 and released after paying the fine amount.
