A 26-year-old woman was arrested at the Kempegowda International Airport with 1.5 kg of gold which she smuggled from a Southeast Asian country on Thursday.

The arrested has been identified as Lavanya Subramanya, an engineering graduate from Mysuru. Customs officials recovered 1,572 gm of gold worth Rs 45,78,741 concealed in dummy mobile cases.

Alert sleuths of Air Intelligence Unit of Customs, based on a tip-off, apprehended Lavanya who was travelling from Bangkok via Singapore to Bengaluru. She was a passenger on flight number TR-2652.

At the time she was intercepted, she said she owned a start-up and had gone abroad to meet her clients. There was one gold bar weighing one kilogram and three cut pieces, officials said. She also confessed to the officials that she carried it for someone for a margin of Rs 10,000.
