Bengaluru: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Bengaluru arrested three Africans on Tuesday for drug smuggling, describing the operation as a significant breakthrough.
The arrests followed intelligence development on Africans transporting drugs by bus and air from Delhi.
NCB officials seized 7 kg and 2 kg of high-grade methamphetamine at the Majestic bus stand and the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) within three days.
In the first operation, 7 kg of methamphetamine, sourced from Delhi, was seized from an African woman who transported it by bus through Mumbai to Bengaluru, traveling with a child to avoid suspicion. Another African woman, who allegedly arranged the contraband, was arrested in a follow-up action.
The NCB then seized 2 kg of methamphetamine, sourced and packed in Delhi, found concealed in the luggage of an African. This person transported the drugs to Bengaluru via a domestic flight. Investigations revealed the person entered India on a student or tourist visa, overstayed its expiry, and obtained a forged passport under a different nationality to evade detection.
The NCB has urged citizens to share information on narcotics sales by calling its toll free helpline, 1933, assuring caller identity confidentiality.
