The repair work of the Varthur bridge will take another 30 days to be completed, according to BBMP officials.

The bridge, situated along State Highway 35, has been wobbling since the second week of May due to heavy vehicular movement.

Following an inspection by a team of Palike engineers, the civic body began the repair work on June 13 using the non-destructive testing method, whereby the officials suggested that the bridge's bearings between the pillars and the slab need to be replaced.

The local residents had warned that the dilapidated structure could prove hazardous for commuters.

According to the Palike officials, the grouting process (a fluid form of concrete used to fill gaps in the bridge) began on Monday. "The angle plates and bearing plates of the bridge will be changed, and it will take another 30 days to be completed," an official said.

As a safety measure, the Whitefield traffic police have barred heavy vehicles from plying on the bridge.
