Bengaluru: A massive tree fell near Shivananda Circle, injuring two people on Friday.
The Indian Cork Tree (Millingtonia Hortensis), locally known as Akash Mallige, fell around 1.30 pm.
Two passersby — a private bank employee and a worker at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath — were hurt in the incident. While the bank staffer suffered injuries to the ankle, the CKP worker sustained injuries to the arm.
Santosh Kumar MS, Assistant Conservator of Forests, said the tree was about 25-30-foot tall and had unhealthy roots. "The roots were completely covered by the concrete footpath. This led to the roots not receiving enough water," he added.
The tree was about 30 years old, and the Forest Department had not received any complaints about it until now, he told DH.
