300 vehicles with defective number plates booked
In continuation with the ongoing enforcement drive, the Transport department onWednesday registered more than 300 cases against vehicles–mostly hired by the government–for defective number plates.
Besides, the officials also removed about 300 defective registration number plates on the spot. A charge sheet was also filed against a central government officer under the Motor Vehicles Act, for displaying the Ashoka emblem with the ‘Government of India’ board atop the registration number plate, in a serious violation.
The emblem can only be used by those in constitutional posts and high dignitaries like the President of India, Governors of States and the like. Officials said the vehicle was hired by the Central Government department and the official was travelling in the vehicle.
The drive which began on Wednesday morning was conducted at Palace Road, Cauvery Bhavan, Vidhana Soudha, and KG Road. Vehicles with defective number plates and those not conforming to Rule 50 and 51 of Central Motor Vehicles (CMV) Rules were checked. Cases were registered against such vehicles under the provisions of the MV Act.
