In a video that went viral on Sunday, the prisoners are seen having gala time.

This incident came to light a day after the prison department came under scrutiny for letting certain inmates enjoy “VVIP treatment” inside the facility. The inmates had access to LED TVs, smartphones and special food.

A senior officer told DH, that the incident took place in Barrack No. 8, Room No. 7 of the prison.

The accused inmates have been identified as Kartik alias Chitte, Dhananjaya, Manjunatha alias Koli Manja and Charan Rao. They are aged between 35 to 37 and were arrested in separate criminal cases booked across various police station limits.

A video clip of the inmates dancing, playing loud music, and allegedly consuming liquor surfaced on social media and a group of inmates were seen performing dance moves while others cheered, indicating they were having a celebration inside the barrack.

However, the officials are yet to verify they had consumed liquor or not. Four bottles looks like containing alcohol were seen near the window.

Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the accused recorded the video on a mobile phone and later leaked it to outsiders, which eventually reached media outlets. The jail authorities suspect that the inmates managed to smuggle in illegal items and a mobile phone with the help of an insider.

Following the incident, the jail superintendent had initiated an internal inquiry and an FIR lodged at the Parappana Agrahara police station under relevant sections of the Prison Act for possessing prohibited items and violating prison discipline.
