Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths on Thursday confiscated four live hand-grenades from the house of one of the five men arrested in connection with a terror plot in Bengaluru.

The policemen seized the grenades from the house of Jahid Tabrez (25), fifth accused in the case, in Bhadrappa Layout. Members of a Forensic Science Laboratory team and a bomb squad joined the sleuths in the operation.

Syed Suhel Khan (24) from Sultanpalya, Mohammed Umar (29) and Tabrez, both from Kodigehalli, Syed Mudaseer Pasha (28) from Dinnur Main Road, and Mohammed Fizal Rabbani (30), from Pulakeshinagar were arrested on Tuesday night from Suhel’s RT Nagar residence.

CCB on Wednesday produced the accused in a court and sought 15 days’ custody but were granted custody for seven days.

During the interrogation, Tabrez revealed that he had received a parcel from Junaid Ahmed – accused number 2 and the alleged mastermind of the plot who is believed to be in Dubai – which he kept in a cupboard in his house. Tabrez told the police that he had nothing to do with the parcel.

A senior police official said the parcel was “neatly packed” and all the grenades appeared “professionally” assembled. "There were four grenades which appeared to be made considering all the technical aspects, and looked very professionally made," he said.

The official said the hand-grenades were packed carefully and taken by the FSL team. "Reports are awaited, and the interrogation is still on. We are yet to ascertain the intentions of the accused," he said.
