Over 50,000 fake voter identity cards were found at a private apartment in Jalahalli ward of Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency on Tuesday.

The BJP workers found this when they searched a flat that they claim to belong to Congress candidate Munirathna.

“We were campaigning for our candidate P M Muniraju Gowda in the constituency about three to four days ago. During this time, our candidate Gowda found a few guys with suspicious behaviour.
This triggered us to check them,” said Santhosh, a party worker.

“We went to the flat claiming to deliver a courier and found at least 50,000 fake voter ID cards there,” he said.

“There were seven laptops and many ID cards were packed in envelopes along with a pamphlet of Munirathna,” he added.

The party workers later informed the Election Commission officials.
Shylaja, returning officer, Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency, said to have deployed three flying squads to verify the information.

Meanwhile, Sanjiv Kumar, chief electoral officer, said earlier, they had seized over 7,500 fake voter ID cards and had cancelled them immediately.

“We do not have any details about the new seizure. We will investigate the matter soon,” he said.
