Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) booked 58 cases against wheelie offenders and arrested 45 of them in a special drive on Thursday night.
According to the police, the remaining offenders were either minors or are absconding.
Anticipating wheelies, the police had closed most of the city's elevated corridors to two-wheelers on Thursday night.
Based on a tip-off, they managed to capture 17 wheelie performers near KR Puram, said MN Anucheth, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic). He added that they were reportedly part of a group of 200 wheelie performers who had gathered at Avalahalli.
Apart from Old Madras Road, the traffic police also tightened wheelie surveillance on Tumakuru Road, especially near the Peenya flyover, and on the International Airport Road elevated corridor. Many offenders were caught on the service road below.
The court imposes a fine of up to Rs 25,000, while the police seizes the vehicle involved and sends the registration certificate (RC) for cancellation or suspension.
In cases where minors are involved, their guardians are booked under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving or riding on public roads.
