Thousands of commuters who endure nerve-wracking traffic on a small stretch at Krishnarajapuram junction could soon heave a sigh of relief. Bengaluru Development Minister K J George on Friday directed officials of the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) on the feasibility for an elevated six-lane flyover there. The minister was inspecting the traffic situation on the Outer Ring Road around Krishnarajapuram with officials on Friday. After looking at the concept plan of the proposed flyover, which is expected to cost Rs 630, George promised funds from the State Government.
Later, a BDA official said the six-lane flyover along the Old Madras Road would be constructed near Benniganahalli Lake (from Hebbal side) for vehicles moving towards Whitefield and Marathahalli. One branch of the flyover will also connect the road towards Hebbal. It requires no land acquisition. The elevated flyover would come up 5.5m above the ramp of the existing cable-stayed bridge, he said and added that this project would clear traffic bottlenecks in Krishnarajapuram.
Besides, George also inspected the narrow stretch leading to NGEF from Byappanahalli. Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) MA Saleem suggested widening of this road. An alternative road connecting Benniganahalli-Kasturinagar stretch was suggested. BMRCL MD Pradeep Singh Kharola wanted sand lorries moved from below the metro overbridge to decongest the road. The minister also directed the BBMP to remove the existing bus stands which were blocking movement of vehicles at Tin Factory junction (opposite the temple). Mayor Manjunath Reddy promised to construct a spacious bus bay. George also said the BBMP would spend Rs 110 crore on grade separators, which would be completed in a year. He further added that work on the railway underbridge from KR Puram junction via ITI gate to Marathahalli is almost complete.
