The arrested are Suresh of Magic and Tuch Tone Distribution, Indiranagar; Somashekhar of Bhagyalakshmi Enterprises, Malleshpalya; Siddique of Sahil Enterprises, Marathahalli; Govind of S P J Enterprises, Electronic City; S Waheed of Waheed Traders, Shivajinagar; Mahaveer of Riddisiddi Mobiles, B V K Iyengar Road; and Sunil Kumar Tiwari of Sri Harsha Electronics, Wilson Garden.
Telecom Enforcement and Resources Monitoring Cell of the Telecom department filed a complaint with the Director General of Police and the City Police Commissioner informing them that several SIM cards were registered under some common names. The Cell expressed its apprehension about the possible misuse of these SIM cards and the case was handed over to the CCB.
The investigation revealed that distributors and sales executives of leading telecom service providers had sold many SIM cards under common names. Frequently used names to sell the SIM cards were Sayeeda Asma Khan, Muruga, Mahesh Kumar, Sayeeda Khaleen, Venkatamma, Ramesh Babu, Nadeem, Mubarak Basha and Shanappa. The investigators found that the distributors had not verified residential addresses and telephone numbers before issuing the SIM cards.
A total of 17 cases have been registered against different companies, distributors and sales executives in this regard.
