8 nursing students go missingOne is reported to be drowned in Velankanni

According to report reaching here on Sunday night Jerald (18), one of the eight students reportedly drowned in the Bay of Bengal in Velankanni in the Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday.

The students had reportedly left for Velankanni without informing the hostel warden.
Details about other students were not immediately available. Lemo John, the hostel warden of Koshy College of Nursing in Kadu Sonnappanahalli lodged a police complaint stating that Jomin, Jerald, Vishwanath, Sandeep, Nikhil, Eldo, Ribin and Aneesh, all students of BSc Nursing, were absent from the hostel when he checked around 7.30 pm.

The students didn't attend the classes on Saturday, nor did they turn up at the hostel on Sunday.  Police said the students might have gone on a trip but failed to inform the warden as he might not grant them permission.

"Their hostel mates say that they had packed up their luggage. These incidents do occur in college hostels during weekends, but this is the first time that a missing complaint has been lodged," Inspector Babu Anjinappa told Deccan Herald. Police are investigating.

Chain snatched

Two persons  on a bike snatched a woman's 32 gm gold chain when she was returning home in Kodigehalli police station limits here on Saturday. Prabhavati (26) of Kannuramma Layout, Devinagar was on her way home after purchasing groceries when the bike rider slowed down  while the pillion rider snatched away her  chain near Lottegollahalli bus stop, the police said.

House burgled

Thieves struck at a call centre employee Bejo Abraham's house, broke open the door and fled with valuables worth Rs 48,000 in HSR Layout police station limits here on Saturday, the police said.
