The number of accidents while bursting crackers during Deepawali has gone up by 85. Most of them are related to eye injuries.
While the number reported on Monday was 116, it went up to 201 on Tuesday.
The Minto Eye Hospital saw a total of 45 cases since day one of the festival. “We treated seven injured in the outpatient department. Only one girl had slightly severe wound.
She is doing well and has been discharged,” Minto Eye Hospital Director Shivaprasad Reddy said. Fourteen fresh cases were reported at Narayana Nethralaya which has three branches in City on Tuesday. The number was also up by 19, each in Shekar Nethralaya and Vasan Eye Care.
So far, five cases of permanent blindness were reported, of which four were children below the age of 16.
Pratap, resident of Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu, who had come to his aunt’s house in Tavarekere, Shivakumar, 10, and five-and-half-year-old resident of Kothanur, Manikanta, all suffered permanent blindness by losing vision in both eyes.
