This fairly new Chinese restaurant on Church Street is an ideal place for all Chinese cuisine lovers. From a relaxed lunch with family and friends to a perfect date, ‘Hong Kong’ should be on one’s list of must-try restaurants. The ambience is themed black and red which is in sync with the logo of the restaurant. And it is dimly lit and has a very oriental touch to the concept.

Coming to the menu, the bar and the food menus are separate. The food menu is categorised into starters, soups, wontons, spring rolls, dim sums, charcoal grills, noodles, rice and desserts. With a clear explanation of each dish on the menu, it will not be a problem figuring out what to eat.

One can start the meal with a lemon coriander chicken soup. As the hot and tangy taste of the soup with chicken cubes, broccoli and other vegetables tingles your tastebuds, you will certainly crave for another spoonful. Once you are done with the soup, you could go for a plate of dim sums. Their specialities are the spinach and cheese, jiaozi vegetable, chicken with chive and the ‘har gao’ dim sum which melt in your mouth.

If you are looking forward to exploring the menu a little more, turn to their ‘charcoal grill’ section and ask for a tofu mushroom with thyme and basil, ‘gai yang’ (chicken cubes with Thai herbs), chicken satay (chicken with Indonesian spices served with peanut sauce) or the chilli pepper baby corn as starters. Though the grilled chicken could be a little softer, the vegetables are perfectly cooked. This will surely leave you asking for more, but you can’t fill yourself with just that.

For the main course, you could try the basil and mint rice and chicken chilli oyster. The two make for a great combination and are quite filling. The food is not very spicy and is perfectly balanced. One of the plus points is that they don’t use ajinomoto in their food, which is great news for those who stay away from Chinese food for this reason.

A tummy full of food, but yes, there is always room for dessert. So without any guilt, go ahead and ask for the fruit toffee bucket — a handmade fruit toffee sundae. You will find fruits like apple, banana and pineapple (caramelised), which is a treat for your sweet tooth.

Hong Kong is located at 2nd Floor, Building 3, MSR Westpark, Off Brigade Road, Church Street. For details, call 49652134.
