Bengaluru: A scooter used by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar during an inspection of the Hebbal flyover loop on Tuesday had pending traffic fines totalling Rs 18,500.

On August 5, Shivakumar posted a video on X showing him riding a Honda Dio with registration number KA04 JZ2087.

"The Hebbal flyover loop is set to open, easing traffic congestion and ensuring smoother and faster commutes as part of our government's commitment to building a better Bengaluru," he wrote.

A check on the Karnataka State Police (KSP) app revealed that the scooter had 34 pending traffic violations amounting to Rs 18,500 in fines.

The JD(S) flagged the issue on X, criticising the Deputy Chief Minister for using a vehicle with such a large amount in unpaid fines.

Dues cleared later

However, when DH verified the details, the KSP app showed no pending dues, indicating the fines had been cleared after the post went viral. Earlier in the evening, the portal had listed the fines as outstanding.

It remains unclear whether the scooter belonged to Shivakumar or was borrowed from a party colleague, and who paid the fines
