Shubha Dhananjay paid a tribute to her guru S V Srinivas through a dance recital
As a tribute to her guru S V Srinivas on his 92nd birth anniversary, dancer Shubha Dhananjay performed Nrityarpane at Seva Sadan recently. The danseuse, along with her daughter Maya Dhananjay, presented a number of beautiful recitals to enthrall the dance-lovers in the City. The concept and choreography were by Shubha Dhananjay while the music for the evening was by Praveen D Rao. The light, sound and stage was by Sai Venkatesh.
The event opened with the senior students of Natyantharanga Institute of Classical Dance presenting a nritha item in coordination. Post this performance, Maya Dhananjay presented Bajamanase, a nrithya item dedicated to Lord Ganesha. This was followed by a Devarnama on Lord Krishna, which was an ode to the mischievousness of the adorable God.
However, the best was saved for later as renowned dancer Shubha Dhananjay presented Nartaki, a unique blend of five styles of classical dances, five talas and five
elements. It was a blend of bharatanatyam, odissi, kathak, kuchipudi and mohiniattam.
By the end of the performance, Shubha had everyone mesmerised with her skill and finesse.
Shubha’s husband, Dhananjay, who is the secretary of Natyantharanga, said, “My wife Shubha is a student of S V Srinivas and tonight she performed a theme-based ‘nartaki’ which is a combination of five dances.”
Explaining the aim of the event and her performance, Shubha said, “Since childhood, I have always been interested in dance. Today, my recital was about how a dancer realises her dreams through the eyes of Lord Natraj.” She added, “The show was dedicated to my guru S V Srinivas, who has played the most importanvt role in shaping my whole life. He was as affectionate to me as my mother and father were. In fact, he was my Lord Natraj.”
Indira and Prathima, two of the senior dancers and students of Shubha who performed that evening, were highly excited.
“We are doing this for our guru’s guru,”explained Indira. While Prathima added, “Since it’s a tribute to S V Srinivas, it’s much more than just an ordinary performance.”
