Ganjam recently organised a felicitation ceremony for Bhabesh Chandra Jana, a young jewellery designer, for being awarded the Medallion of Excellence at the World Skills Competition 2013. The event was held at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat.
This youngster, who came to the City for a job, was trained by the jewellery brand for a year before he went for the competition. Commenting on his experience, Bhabesh said that jewellery designing is a field in which the more one works, the more one learns.
“I submitted an application form along with a silver pendant that I had designed following which, I was selected along with 20 candidates for a test. After this, I underwent an extensive training in Indore conducted by Parag Vyas.
The National Skill Development Corporation then organised a competition across various categories of craft, including jewellery, when I was selected as a finalist to represent India at the World Skills Competition 2013,” he detailed.
On being asked about his experience, he said, “I’ve been working in the field of jewellery for nine years now and have learnt a lot from Ganjam. The training here helped me improve the quality of my work.
” Having worked in the field in Kolkata and Kerala, Bhabesh said that Bangalore offers a lot more opportunities in jewellery designing. “It could be because of the different type of people here due to which one can explore a variety of designs,” he said.
Bhabesh said that he likes designing on pendants and necklaces the most. “A lot more intricacy goes into these pieces. Any work is satisfying as long as I’m pleased with the end result,” said the young craftsman. Speaking on the occasion, Kumar Ganjam, director, said that he was proud of Bhabesh for receiving this appreciation.
“The environment created by the organisation, along with its employees and Bhabesh’s trainers, has helped him win this title. And the perseverance and dedication of the young artist must also be appreciated,” said Kumar.
Encouraging young artistes, the chief guest of the function, artist Balan Nambiar, said that most jewellery museums in the country were in a bad condition.
He suggested that Ganjam should set up a good museum in the City and encourage young talent in the country. “There is no doubt that Bhabesh has made the art fraternity proud,” he wrapped up.
