Trinity Laban’s professor of piano Karl Lutchmayer will return to Bengaluru to run Trinity Laban’s ‘Summer Music Academy’: a series of week-long courses for music teachers, pianists and string players. In addition to Prof Lutchmayer, the other faculty members will include Phillippa Bunting and Head of the String Faculty, Nic Pendenbury.
The programme is now entering its third year. Launched in Mumbai in 2013, the course moved to two cities in 2014, this year, Bengalureans can also attend it. The programme is supported by Furtados Musical Instruments and the four host institutions: Bangalore School of Music, Delhi School of Music, the Secco Family Music Foundation, Goa, and the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation, Mumbai.
The BSM Chamber Orchestra, directed by Narayanaswamy V, will perform for the participants and visiting professors during the summer academy. Professor Lutchmayer says, “There isn’t a great deal of opportunity in India for high-level training for music students generally. Traditionally, music has been considered something for the wealthy, so our classes aim to open up music to all.”
The courses will be conducted at the Bangalore School of Music, RT Nagar. The last date for registration is April 15.
