Yes that is exactly what is becoming an upcoming trend in Delhi’s food joints. Fried ice cream and ice-cream spring rolls are the latest cold-in-hot delicacy being preferred for youngsters. Pooja Chopra, a Gurgaon resident, likes to pamper her sweet tooth and fried ice-cream tops her list. “We usually go to August Moon in GK II for that sweet taste of heaven.”
The concept of fried icecream is not new and yet it is not available at many food junctions in Delhi. A few five-star hotels and a couple of eateries offer it in their menu. Chef Lenam Letcha of The Kylin Experience, Vasant Vihar, says that one can find this delicacy in Singapore very often. “In Delhi we have modified it with some creativity and made it our own. It is not very difficult to learn. I too learnt from a chef from Singapore.”
It can be prepared by mixing custard powder with eggs, cornflakes, bread crumbs so that the exterior becomes thick and the ice cream inside can be of your own choice.
Spring roll sheets are easily available in the market so it can be prepared without difficulty. The flavours can vary from chocolate flavour to strawberry and mango besides the dependable Vanilla, depending on your choice. Says Shilpy Malhotra, a student of Delhi School of Economics, “It tastes yum. I am learning how to make it.”
Delhiites are big foodies and the youth is all eyes and ears for new and tempting frozen treats. With the kind of demand out there, it is important to stay innovative with ideas. House of Ming, The Taj Mahal Hotel, chef, Ashwini, reverberates the sentiments of his peers, “We receive many guests who inquire about the latest editions in our dessert menu. Fried ice-cream is soon becoming a popular choice among them, though we constantly ask them for remarks to maintain the standard of food.”
In summer season, the consumption of ice-cream goes up substantially. Besides, the current generation of food enthusiasts is always hungry for more! So, the dessert ideas should be innovative and creative. A fried ice-cream in comparison to a normal ice-cream will generate curiosity among the gourmands.
