The Academic Council of the Bangalore University has resorted to semantics on bifurcation of the varsity.
The extraordinary meeting of the Council held on Monday adopted a resolution opposing the use of the words “bifurcation or splitting” of the university.
“It is not opposed to the creation of a new university from out of BU as was done in the other universities in the State. The process of formation of a new university shall not affect the identity of BU in any way,” the resolution stated.
Members resolved that the Central College campus, which is the heart of the varsity should remain with Bangalore University. Also, all colleges in Central Bangalore as mentioned in the Comprehensive Development Plan of 2010 have to remain a part of Bangalore University.
Speaking to reporters after the Council meeting, university Vice-Chancellor Prof Thimme Gowda said they would urge the government to redo the demarcation using an area-wise criteria instead of the road-wise parameters.
“The present demarcation is not scientifically planned. The university would like to retain colleges in Bangalore North, South, Central and Ramanagar. The new university could comprise colleges in Kolar, Anekal, Bangalore East and Bangalore Rural,” the V-C said.
The Council unanimously accepted the Final Report of the Task Force on BEd colleges. Prof Thimme Gowda said a monitoring committee will be formed to ensure the improvement of all the affiliated colleges.
