Actress Amrita Rao got a lot of appreciation for her role as the daughter-in-law of Amitabh Bachchan in Satyagraha and she dubs her work in the film as ‘a learning experience’.

“Not only did I get a substantial role to play alongside Bachchan ji, I learnt how to hold my personality beside such a great actor. The role was quite satisfying and
gave me an opening to different roles,” Amrita tells Metrolife.

Amrita has been scanning through a couple of scripts but nothing has caught her attention just yet. “I am now getting offered a lot of thriller-suspense characters. That’s something I wouldn’t mind trying because I’ve never worked in a thriller before, although I’ve always been curious about the thriller genre of films,” she opines.

Amrita is busy wrapping up the shooting for Singh Sahab the Great, where she plays a press reporter. “There’s a lot of background work that has gone into understanding the role of a journalist. I’ve played the role to the best of my capacity. With odd working hours and having to report anything in just about any risky situation, I think it takes a lot of courage to be a journalist,” she shares. She recalls that she was told how journalists are trained to be very sharp and well-read to be able to ask the right questions at the right time.

More than anything, Amrita is quite keen to explore films that are scripted around mystery.

“I think it would be entertaining and enriching to work in such a project. Mysteries don’t have to be scary all the time if they are narrated in an interesting way,” she observes.

Amrita is a South Indian but she has done more films in Bollywood. “I get a lot of offers from the Telugu and Kannada film industries but my heart lies in Bollywood. It’s a huge challenge to give expression to lines that you don’t understand. Acting is all about reacting and it requires a different kind of patience,” she reasons.
