Bengaluru: The Amruthahalli police in northeastern Bengaluru arrested an African man for allegedly peddling MDMA worth Rs 3 crore, police officials said on Wednesday.
The suspect was identified as Pepe Morepeyi, 43, from Nigeria. The police found that he was selling drugs to college students and others in the guise of a clothes seller.
Morepeyi was arrested near a school in Dasarahalli on May 20. From his possession, the police recovered three kilos of MDMA, officials said.
During questioning, Morepeyi revealed that he had arrived in Bengaluru in 2023 in search of work and had been overstaying since then. His visa had also expired, officials said.
"The suspect confessed that he purchased the drugs from another foreigner in Kammanahalli. A probe is underway to nab the second suspect and unearth the source of the contraband,” a police investigator said.
Morepeyi has been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is on, the police said.
