Bengaluru: An Akasa Air aircraft was hit by ground-handling equipment at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) during the wee hours on Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 4 am, while the aircraft was parked overnight at KIA at stand 26. The incident happened when a Ground Power Unit (GPU), detached from an electrical baggage tug and collided with the aircraft, an KIA source told DH. No casualties were reported as there were no employees or passengers in the vicinity of the aircraft.
The GPU acts as a portable power source, providing electrical power to the aircraft while they were on the ground. The incident is currently being investigated.
A Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) spokesperson confirmed the incident did not impact flight operations at KIA, "On August 13, equipment from a third-party ground handling agency made contact with an Akasa Air aircraft, resulting in minor damage. As the aircraft was parked, there was no impact on passengers, employees, or flight operations."
