Bengaluru: All level-crossing gates within a 100-kilometre radius of Bengaluru will be eliminated in the next three years, Minister of State for Railways V Somanna has said.
On Sunday, he inaugurated a road underbridge (RUB) at Challaghatta, West Bengaluru, and laid the foundation stone for another at Ramohalli.
The Challaghatta RUB has eliminated level crossing number 15 in the Kengeri-Hejjala section of the Bengaluru-Mysuru railway line. It connects Challaghatta to Mysuru Road and was constructed for Rs 5.52 crore.
The Ramohalli RUB will eliminate level crossing 16 on the same line. It will cost Rs 7.74 crore.
Somanna said that both the bridges would decongest roads leading to Mysuru Road.
He reiterated that the railways would fully fund and construct all road overbridges and underbriges in the country. He added that 640 such bridges had been constructed in the last decade.
