All the available seats in the City’s top four colleges R V College of Engineering, Ramaiah College, BMS College of Engineering and PESIT were taken.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Karnataka Examination Authority’s (KEA) senior official assured that there would not be any problem in the forthcoming days of counselling as well.
Further, the officials said students with ranking between 3,201 to 4,800 in engineering stream will be allowed for selection on Friday based on merit and the number of seats available stands at 37,382.
Eelectronics (7,626), computer science (7,477), civil (4,351) and information science (4,193) seats are still available for students. Mechanical, which was one of the most sought after course last year has about 6,586 seats remaining.
The Medical Council of India’s (MCI) decision of renewing permission for seats in medical colleges in the State has brought in some relief to aspiring medicos. Experts point out that approximately 500 seats, which were taken away by the MCI during the first round of counselling for quality check will now be made available during the second round of counselling.
“The inspection was a consequence of allegations that some of the colleges had not met certain criteria like infrastructure and faculty. The expert panel had inspected the colleges in Raichur and Bidar. The council has also requested to complete the counselling process by August 31,” said Principal Secretary for Medical Education I M Vittala Murthy.
This move has been a ray of hope for many students. R T Siddhartha, who secured 843 rank in the CET said, “I am looking forward to the second round. Increase in the number of seats under the general category has made me happy. The increase of intake of new colleges might prompt a few students to switch to their neighbourhood college.”
Even students who have already secured medical seats are hopeful of securing admission in one of the top colleges.
The official circular published by the MCI lists both private and government medical colleges in the approved list of institutes.
The intake of Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences, Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences, Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences, Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences is 100, while SS Institute of Medical Sciences, Davangere has been permitted 150 seats.
Siddhartha Medical College, Tumkur has been granted an increased intake from the earlier 130 seats to 150 seats. Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences got permission for an increased intake from 100 to 150 seats.
There are nearly 10 government and 29 private medical colleges in the State. The number of seats available for CET candidates is close to 1,800.
