With almost all landfills on the outskirts of the City closing their doors to the City’s refuse, BBMP had banked on its land on Bannerghatta Road to be utilised as a dumping yard.

But what seems to have escaped the minds of the BBMP top brass is that the land is adjacent to the Bannerghatta national forest and is declared an elephant corridor.

Senior Palike officials told Deccan Herald that BBMP’s plans of converting the land into a dumping yard will directly conflict with the elephant corridor and thus lack legal sanction.

Blind eye

According to officials, the Palike, turning a blind eye to this fact, is all set to issue an order for converting the 200 acres of land into a dumping yard.

Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy had announced on Tuesday that BBMP will utilise 200 acres of land on Bannerghatta Road as a dumping yard.
