A public awareness campaign to combat dengue in Bengaluru was launched on Tuesday. Titled ‘Zero Dengue Starts with Me’, it urges residents to eliminate stagnant water, use repellents and mosquito nets, and cover water tanks to curb mosquito breeding.

Led by BBMP in collaboration with Rotary Bangalore Midtown (RBM) and startup EcoBio Traps, the campaign also promotes the use of ovitraps — biodegradable buckets that disrupts the breeding cycle of mosquitoes. Each trap covers about 500 sq ft and decomposes in 30 days. To use, fill the bucket with water and keep it out of direct sunlight. The traps are available online and cost around Rs 300 each.

RBM president Palani Loganathan said the campaign was initiated after the Karnataka High Court took suo motu cognisance last year of the rising dengue cases in Bengaluru and across the state.
