Bengaluru: Dr Peter Machado, Metropolitan Archbishop of Bangalore, has been elected as the vice-president of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), during its ongoing 36th plenary assembly at XIM University, Bhubaneswar.

Cardinal Felipe Neri Ferrao was re-elected as its president. 

Machado, ordained as a priest on December 8, 1978, was appointed as the Bishop of Belgaum on February 2, 2006, and as the Archbishop of Bangalore on March 19, 2018.

He also serves as the president of the Karnataka Regional Bishops Council, president of the All Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights, and chairman of the CCBI Commission for Laity.
