Tension gripped Modi Garden in DJ Halli on Saturday night, as a gang of 10 armed men attacked residents and vandalised shops and vehicles parked on the roadside.
Around 10 pm, the men assaulted residents and wrecked shops in the area, while also smashing the windshields of cars and autos. They attacked residents who questioned their violent behaviour. The injured have been shifted to hospital.
The violence was recorded on a CCTV camera installed at a nearby house, which the DJ Halli police have retrieved to track down the attackers.
Residents of Modi Garden said it was a scuffle between two groups, in which innocent people had also been attacked. They also accused the police of failing to crack down on anti-social elements, despite repeated complaints.
The DJ Halli police have taken a few suspects into custody to find out the exact reason behind the violence.
