Armed men looted Rs 7 lakh in cash and 250 gm of gold from the members of Satellite Club on Kommaghatta Road in the Kombalgodu police limits on Tuesday night.

According to the police, around 25 people were celebrating Varshathaduku, feasting on non-vegetarian meal, a day after the Ugadi festival, at Satellite Club. They were consuming liquor and gambling since morning.

Around 11.30 pm, three to four men barged in, dragging two security guards and locked the gates and doors.

Another 10 people armed with weapons joined the gang threatening people to hand over cash and gold chains, police said.

Satellite Club president K Puttaswamy said the men were wearing balaclavas and conversing in Kannada.

Guards threatened

Four of them threatened two security guards at the main gate and dragged them inside, while the rest entered from the rear side. Brandishing weapons, they broke the window panes, glasses, televisions and other furniture. Besides asking the members to hand over cash and gold ornaments, the gang also took away money from the cashier.

The police suspect it to be the handiwork of locals who knew the vicinity well. None was hurt in the incident.

Club secretary Manjunathiah has lodged  a complaint with the Kumbalgodu police.
