Warm and cozy ambience, reminding one immediately of a retired Army officer’s house who is proud to showcase his army belongings and loves to serve his guests, is all what 38 Barracks is about.

Vintage rifles, guns, pistols, medals, trophies, certificates and even army lunch boxes are decorated all over the place. The army-style lounge cum bar is spread over two floors, with the basement reserved for private gatherings and the upper floor artistically divided into three sections called locker, dining room and balcony.

The brainchild of Ankur Aggarwal, Kumar Sambhav and Gautam Chaudhry, the restaurant is spread over 3000 square feet of area with the seating capacity of 125 people. The place welcomes you with a bright red painted entrance leading to the main first floor seating. On a Sunday evening, the restaurant was jam packed with families having a gala time over live sufi music and food.

On being asked if the place is preferred by families than young crowd, the owners say that they try keeping the music mellowed down and the whole ambience is such that families are fond of this place.

Coming over to food, with the menu created by chef Gautum Chaudhry, the restaurant serves world cuisine at a reasonable cost.

For starters, Paneer Tikka Barrels, stuffed cottage cheese steaks and mint chutney,
were a good pick. Soft in texture and sweet and spicy taste makes these barrels worth a try.

We were then served with Soldier’s Mirchi Wada which were made from a tangy potato filled banana pepper, spiced date chutney; Batallion Samosa Booster which was chicken samosa along with a spicy keemabhaji chaat and Snipper Seekh Bairagi which was made up of egg and lamb seekh and was served with mint chutney.

With an IPL match on the screens and soothing live music, we didn’t mind hogging on to these dishes one after the other.

But what caught our attention was Barracks’ Prawns which were priced at Rs 575. Charmoula grilled jumbo prawns served on pineapple carpaccio, Barracks’ Prawns were perfectly cooked prawns with spices that will tantalise your taste buds.

Likewise, the beverage menu has been carefully curated by Kumar Sambhav. Cocktails like Barrack Special Molecular Mojito, Gunner, Aviation, Captain’s flavoured Caprioska and Homemade Sangria would go well with the combination of food that the restaurant serves.

While Connaught Place is filled with a barrage of cafes and restaurants all over, the warm and cosy ambience at 38 Barracks might make you head to this restaurant, which claims to be the only army-style lounge cum bar in Delhi.
