The City, with a history of celebrating the event in a grand way, is flooded with Ganesha idols of different sizes- from Lilliputian to gigantic.

Day and night
Artisans, who have arrived in Bangalore from different parts of the country, are working day and night to supply idols in the City.

This time, however, Ganesha’s stay in the City will be restricted to a limited period
as the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has decided to limit the celebration for 10 to 15 days.

Pollution measure
Also as a measure to check pollution, the Palike is reaching out to the artisans to prepare eco-friendly idols which could not harm the water bodies.

Following the call, many artisans are using soil which can dilute in the water, instead of plaster of paris. According to the Palike officials, starting next year, they will make a point to ensure the idol makers are using  eco-friendly paints instead of harmful chemicals.

Water bodies harmed
Last year, fish-kill was reported in Yediyur tank. The use of harmful chemicals to paint the immersed idols was seen as the cause for the death.

The Palike has also identified tanks where the idols should be immersed and has taken
up measures for safety and security.
