Styling for her is like producing art, and when unable to create art, she aims to create craft. In the city recently for Sebastian Gallery Jam Session, Diva Poulus talks about her love for glamorous hairstyles and hair are styling advice for Indian women.

“The reason for getting into styling right after high school was to become an independent professional and to exercise my potential,” says Poulus, clear from an early age about her career choice.

With time she fell in love with the hi-end 70s jet set style because of its “glamour and lusciousness” and in turn to make people look more desirable, she became a known personality in the world of designer tresses.

Inside the Wella Studio at Saket, Poulus confesses, “When celebrities and high-end executives come to seek my opinion about what they can do with their hair for a red carpet appearance, they are limited by the fact that they need to change their look according to their agent or the spokesperson or their physicians. So when they walk in I usually suggest more styling options over cut and colour.”

Her statement is worth  considering that her adept hands have styled the who’s who of Hollywood such as Scarlett Johansson reportedly.

From taking care of her niche clientele to being a mother of two girls isn’t easy for Poulus who says that her daughters “don’t cut their hair very often”.

“I experiment with my hair quite often. I’m not against lengths but it limits me when it comes to styling and colouring,” says the International Design Artist at Sebastian Professional. Contrarily the mother of two adds, “My daughters have very long hair. They create their own method and experiment a lot with their looks in terms of twisted and fishtail braids while I help them with products and tools.”

The stylist on her third trip to India says that “Indian women are not exposed to as much change with their hair. They experience more change with cosmetics, either styling products or colour.”

“Indian women who are unhappy with their hair have not yet met the right hair dresser who would give them the opportunity to experience change,” she says as a matter-of-fact, expressing a desire to style Angelina Jolie’s hair someday.

“She’s beautiful and I really admire her flamboyance and strong personality. Her hair length is long and I would love to work with her to show her the opportunities on how she could wear her hair when she’s out on her own and carry her own style.”

The rising temperatures naturally veer the conversation towards summer trends. “Hydrate the hair as much as possible and experiment with styling,” is the hair stylist’s
expert advice.
