Frustrated by her parents' demand that she do household chores, a teenage girl committed suicide in southeastern Bengaluru on Friday evening, the HSR Layout police said.

Shatabdi Das, the eldest daughter of Nitish Kumar Das and Meena Das, reportedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan in their Parangipalya home after her parents asked her to cook food and clean utensils. She refused to do the work initially but relented only after her mother who was unwell forced her.

After finishing the work, Shatabdi locked herself in a bedroom and hanged herself, police said. No suicide note has been found. She had become depressed after failing in class 10 and stayed at home. Her parents' demand that she do household chores added to her agony, police said.
