An auto driver, who used to sedate lone woman passengers hiring his auto and rob them of their valuables, has been arrested by Kamakshipalya police.
A woman named Sujatha complained to the police that as she travelled in the auto, the driver befriended her and the two had coffee at a restaurant. After which she fell unconscious and found her jewellery missing.
Kamakshipalya police formed a special team to probe the case. They have now arrested the auto driver Vishwanath alias Vishakantha alias Raja, 34, a resident of Maruthi Nagar in Kamakshipalya.
Police have also recovered 256 gram of gold ornaments worth Rs 7.5 lakh from the suspect.
Police interrogation has revealed that Vishwanath had robbed many women passengers who hired his auto. His modus operandi was to befriend them, offer them coffee, sedate them by mixing sleeping pills in the coffee and rob them.
