Delegates representing 23 countries at the fourth World Ayurveda Congress and Arogya Expo here in Bangalore on Sunday took a pledge to promote and contribute to the growth and sustenance of ayurveda.
The delegates said ayurvedic medicine is gaining popularity at the global level. It has been accepted as a form of medicine in countries like Serbia and Hungary. In other countries people are consuming it as food supplements and are keen on practising and promoting the traditional system of medicine native to India. Practitioners abroad depend on research done by Indian doctors. However, researchers in the field have received very little encouragement from the governments, said the international delegates.
Dr Anonio Morandi, an ayurveda practitioner from Italy, speaking to Deccan Herald said although India has a lot of potential in guiding the world about ayurveda, there was no governmental support.
Due to lack of regulations, the European Union is on the verge of withdrawing the Traditional Herbal Medicine Product Directive Act affecting the export of ayurveda medicine from India, he added.
